Hong Kong and Macau residents who have specific professional qualifications or skills, and have been in the position for more than 2 years may apply for profrssional residence. After living in Taiwan for one year, during which leaving Taiwan for less than 30 days, they can apply for naturalization and obtain Taiwan ID card and passport, without having to give up SAR passport or BNO.

After obtaining a residence permit, professionals need not be in a hurry to stay in Taiwan. They can retain their residence permit, while continue their work in Hong Kong. At the same time, they are free to travel and stay in Taiwan. This is a plan ahead for emigrating to Taiwan.
