The Advantage of Chinese
I believe many parents agree on the importance of Chinese. Being able to speak and write fluent Mandarin (Putonghua) can greatly help their future interpersonal relationships and career development.
Unfortunately, with the lack of a Mandarin-speaking environment in Hong Kong, however hard you work, it is always less effective in both writing and speaking.
Taiwan is definitely the best choice for learning Chinese, and the use of traditional characters is especially comfortable.
Take my own child for example. He had been studying in Hong Kong before. After moving to Taiwan and studied for a year, his Chinese has progressed by leaps and bounds.
All his linguistic problems in writing, typical to Hong Kong students, were gone. Furthermore, conversation in Mandarin is natural for him. This is not achievable by Hong Kong cram schools!
Chinese Cultural Heritage
Taiwanese education has inherited the classic Chinese culture.
At the primary school stage, the school pays great attention to the influence of traditional cultural thoughts and the training of ancient prose on the basis of courses in Chinese, history and traditional culture.
At the high school stage, the school pays attention to the basic knowledge of Chinese language as well as the basic introduction of the classical Chinese philosophy, such as the "Four Books".
During the three years of high school, classical Chinese accounted for 45% to 65% of the course materials, strengthening the classic content of national culture.
Take the example of my children. The younger sister is a freshman in Taiwan, but now she can recall the entire "disciple rules."
Now she is a sophomore in "four-word idioms", not just in writing, but fluency in speaking as well.
And for the older brother, to be honest, I do not quite understand his Chinese textbook. He can be my Chinese teacher now!
Moral Education
Taiwan's simple folk style and good moral character should be attributed to its traditional education. Primary and secondary education in Taiwan emphasizes self-cultivation.
Primary schools focus on strengthening the education of pupils' social etiquette, living daily life, filial piety and respect, good friendship, treat people and patriotism.
Early secondary schools will give priority to strengthening education for students of the Chinese academy, "cultivating one's self-serving kindness, living independently, helping each other and cooperating with others,
benefiting other people , national consciousness, democracy and legal system, and national dignity."
High schools are focusing their education on 'learning, knowledge and values, sound character, promoting good culture, cultivating the spirit of the legal system and building a harmonious society.'
It can be said that "etiquette, humility, courtesy, and courtesy" have become the subtleties of Taiwanese life. While we are still debating on "priority seats" in Hong Kong, the Taiwanese have given us a good demonstration!
Have you ever thought of children ascending to the summit of "Yushan" which is the highest mountain in Taiwan, at 3386 meters? How is the school implementing moral education? Take a look at the following link:
