Cycling
Speaking of cycling, I have to praise the Taiwanese government for its commitment of resources and dedication.
In order to encourage people to use public bicycles that are without pollution and low energy consumption, as short-distance public transport, various regional governments have set up comprehensive network of U-Bike stations.
It allows people to "take a bike at site A and return at site B" at a low price. When you borrow a bike, you can use "Easy Card", credit card and mobile phone. Convenience is top of the world.
U-bike stations can be found almost everywhere in the city. Take Taipei and New Taipei as an example. There are about 590 U-bike stations.
Whether you are at a MRT station, school, park, tourist hot spot or river bank, you will find a U-bike station.
The most recommended cycliong track is the Shuangbei City Riverside cycling track, with a total length of about 112km, separated into pedestrian and cycling lane, and beautiful scenery along the way.
It is difficult to imagine that just nect to busy roads or across river embankment, the view is totally different. If you are a cycling enthusiast, you must not miss the "round-island" cycling of more than 900km.
You will spend about 10 days on your bike to experience the beauty of Taiwan's mountains and rivers, and enjoy the local delicacies and culture. I believe this is also the dream of many people.
Mountaineering
Two-thirds of Taiwan are mountains and hilly terrain, with over 200 peaks that are more than 3000m. Among these are the famous "Taiwan 100" that are wonderful, dangerous, steep and elegant.
Want to know Taiwan in depth? Going to these Taiwan-100s, such as the Snow Mountain, Yushan, Acacia Hill, etc.) will be the best experience.
Taking Taiwan-100s is not just a dream. Many are very easily accessible. Some experienced parents even take their children along with them.
Of course, apart from these Taiwan-100s, there are many mountains under 1000m near the city for warm-up at weekends, such as Yangmingshan and Sishoushan (Four Beast Mountain) in Taipei.
And the most incredible thing is that if you climb up to mountains over 3000m in the winter, the snow on top and gorgeous scenery make you feel you are in paradise.
Perhaps the name "Formosa" (Portugese, means beautiful island) was came from this?
Water Sports
Taiwan is surrounded by the sea with a coastline of 1,600 km. It has greatly developed the natural environment for various water activities.
Diving, for example, it can be roughly divided into northern and southern regions. The representative places are the Northeast Corner and Kenting respectively.
Kenting is a year-round diving site, with clean and thorough water quality, and a visibility of 20 to 30 meters, temperature 23~30 degree Celsius. The ecology system is also very rich. It is a unique ocean paradise.
Besides, remote islands such as Green Island, Lanyu, Penghu and small Ryukyu, are all diving hot spots.
The experience of a Taiwanese youngster who used bike and footsteps to explore Taiwan.
The best he said, "... On an island that is neither too large nor too small, within an hour, you can go from hustle to peace, and from bustle to casual."
